Extend vs. Renovate

Do you want to extend or renovate your home as part of your extension? With Woodford Homes, we excel at both, and we have 20 years of experience and knowledge that we bring to every building project we do in the Blue Mountains or Penrith areas.

Extend vs. Renovate — What’s the Difference?

The difference between these two things is very simple. When you choose to extend your home, you’re adding additional walls and ceilings to give your home more room. When you choose to renovate your home, you simply alter your home’s existing structure without adding anything to it.

Woodford Homes performs bathroom renovations, kitchen renovations, and outdoor renovations like awnings and decks as part of your extension project. Please note, we DO NOT take on renovation-only projects for these areas.

This means that we will gladly renovate other parts of your home like a kitchen or bathroom to bring any adjoining parts of your existing home up to date and to better integrate your new extension, but we don’t do them by themselves. However, we’ll include these smaller renovations as part of your initial extension design so you know exactly what to expect before, during and after the extension process.

You might be tempted to try to do this yourself, but we at Woodford Homes strongly advise against it.

Why You Shouldn’t DIY a Large Building Project

It’s true that DIY projects can save you money and be very rewarding, but they’re usually not a good idea for home extensions. To accomplish a finished project that is functional, safe and that you’re satisfied with, you need knowledge and experience in project management, design and construction.

You’ll also have to: 1) know how to source reputable tradespeople that you can trust with your project; 2) make sure that you have all of your materials, and; 3) ensure they arrive promptly, liaise with suppliers, deal with your local council and keep your site safe.

If you get ANY of this wrong, it could turn a six-month building process into a six-year slog. You could also end up seriously devaluing your property, going way over budget and it could threaten your home’s structural integrity.

Our Process

We meet and talk

We want to meet with you to talk about your desires, needs and ideas for your new extension or major renovation.

Make 3D drawings

We turn these into 3D drawings that make it easy for you to visualise the finished product.

Submit your plans

If you’re satisfied with them, we’ll submit your plans and paperwork to your local council on your behalf.

We do the work

We’ll complete the project and hand your new and improved home back to you.
